This morning we launched our project with our TDU class. The group of 60 students is team taught and Mr Morris and myself both brought in our personal artefacts as a way of launching the idea of the project. Students had to come up with questions to ask us to find out about our artefacts in more detail. We then shared the possible enquiry strands we might look at which arise from our artefacts.
Students were asked last lesson to think of their own personal artefacts. Some brought them in this lesson ranging from their black belt in a marshal art, their grandfather's war medals. As expected, one or two students forgot, we expect all to remember next lesson having had the chance to see how excited everyone else was to talk about theirs.
Next lesson students will repeat a similar activity to the one we modelled this lesson. They will question each other on their artefacts in small groups. They will then decide what they know about the artefact already and start identifying possible enquiry strands.

Students appeared to be very engaged in the idea of the project. They asked good questions. They made good use of the tools provided on the tablets to help them to come up with good questions. An area to work on with them next lesson is choosing which tools to use independently. In this lesson some students needed support choosing the appropriate tools to help them design their questions.
Below is the presentation which will be used next lesson. Note full scheme of work and all lesson plans etc. will be available online in due course.
