Hundred of Hoo Academy Creative Classroom Blog 1
The Hundred of Hoo Academy is set along the Thames Estuary in Kent, England. The school caters for 11-18 year olds. My name is Chris Carey, a teacher of PSHRE (A mixture of Religious Education, Citizenship and PSHE). I am also leading on SMSCD (spiritual, moral, social and cultural development) for the whole school. I am supporting Stephen Lea in leading a project with a group of year 9 students.
We are currently at the primary stage of implementing the use of iPads into the school. A small number of teachers have been given this equipment to aid learning in the classroom. I will be using 10 IPads with one class to run a creative classrooms project.
The project will focus on students producing a campaign on a topic of their choice. It is the hope that the use of iPads will improve the quality of these campaigns in comparison to classes where iPads are not available to use. From this we will hope to raise awareness of the benefits of using this media in the classroom.
I feel that my biggest challenge in this project will be my own ability of using the iPad. It will be as much of a challenge to me as it will the students in becoming familiar with this. I have split the class into small groups of 3. It is my hope that this will enable each student to get an equal amount of use. Even so another challenge I will have to combat is finding the right apps to use to help create the best campaign possible. Hopefully students will be able to find as many of these as possible.
